For years our family has donated gifts and "goody bags" to two schools in the area during their Christmas Celebrations.
This year (2009) should not have been any different.
But, our dad died.
So, this Christmas was really different for us.
We were going to tell the schools that this year we will not be part of the celebration.
But, then we remember the reason why we started doing this in the first place...
Begging - Is a huge problem in Ecuador.
And it gets worst in Christmas time.
"Good people" that don't take the time to plan their donations.... "try" to do good.... by going to the middle of the "Panamericana Sur -Highway"... Stop their cars on the side of the road... And start giving away gifts to people that live around the area.
This has cause sooooo many problems.

* Schools have realized that kids stop going to school just to get that gift. And since kids, don't know when this "good people" are comming... They just don't go to school for days.
* Some of our workers... at the farm.... sometimes stop coming to work because they had to beg with their childrens. At first we try to stop the parents but the only thing we accomplished, is that the kids go to the streets unsuppervised.
This also caused a lot of traffic accidents. Children crossing the Hwy, cars trying to miss them. It is a mess.
So my dad made a deal with his employees and some people in the community. That if they kept their kids in school and don't take them to beg.... He will make sure their kids have Christmas gifts. He insured the children and their parents that he will deliver the gifts at the school....
So, now without my dad... We had to keep doing his work. It is vital that his work goes on.
* At the end of December, we go to "Escuelita de Tanicuchi" & "Guarderia y Escuelita del Caspi".
* We delivered christmas gifts to all the kids and teachers of the schools.
